In 1980 Wayne and I both took Photography 101 at BYU, during different semesters. Here are some of the pictures I took with a single reflex lens film camera for that class, and developed in the dark room.

Wayne's house, 1964-1980
Wayne's parents built this house in Doraville, Georgia after Wayne's dad got his job in Atlanta with the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, with the National Park Service. It had a full basement.

Family Reunion, Bryce Canyon, 1964
Wayne's family was living in Atlanta in 1964, so they traveled west to a family reunion.
I was surprised to see this picture of Wayne up so high in this tree (he has on the red stripes).
When he climbed trees with my children for family pictures, I didn't know it was already a family tradition from when he was a child.
Here is what he wrote about this picture:
" The climbing tree looms large in my memory of this family reunion.
As you can see, I'm right at the very top! I loved the feeling of
climbing so high. I would climb right up into the very smallest
branches of the top of the tree.
One of the cousins (Jan's son I think) brough some monster figures
(small plastic statuettes). We played with those a lot, too. I think
that is one that I'm holding up in one hand at the top of the tree.
I loved playing with them. In the portrait of the family I am holding
his werewolf figure in front of me to make sure it got in the picture.
We don't have that photo here, but I remember seeing it with me and
that little toy.
We also liked to play in the gulches and forest behind the camp. One
day Laura Bennett and I were "galloping" around in the woods near camp
playing cowboys and indians. When we got back to camp, we heard that
her little sister, Theresa, had just fallen out of the tree. We rushed
over to the picnic table under a dining fly where she lay. Whether it
is true or not, my memory of the event was that she had on stretch
pants with those little loops that run under the foot (pedal pushers?).
One of those was broken. Unfortunately, so was one of her arms. They
had to take her to Panquich to get to a doctor to help her.
From what I heard, she wasn't hurt worse because she kind of bounced
from one limb to the next as she fell. So, no single fall was enough
to hurt her too badly.
I can't remember whether I was allowed back in the tree or not.
All I know is that I had a lot of fun while I could!" WRW

Wayne's family: Living in Atlanta in 1963
L to R: Brian, Wayne.
This is the era in Wayne's life when he was beating up other kids. A boy did something really bad, and Wayne chased him to the boy's doorstep. The boy yelled to his mother, "Mother, those Winsor boys are bothering me again!" and just as the mother came outside, Wayne punched him right in the nose.

Toy pedal car
Here are Wayne and his siblings. You can see the little pedal car behind them.
While Wayne and his family were living in Bryce Canyon National Park, they owned this little pedal car. Wayne remembers watching his older brother, Brian, riding the toy car out in the road as a real car came along and drove right over him. Brian ducked and was just fine!
(Wayne is on the swing, front left, Marilu is behind him. Brian is on the swing on the right, Mark is behind him.)

Cutest pictures of me
Six months old.
I was probably a little bit younger than this, when I was looking in the mirror, and my mother asked me what I was doing. I said, "Me look at meself, and me pretty."

Lu and Wickie over the years (Wayne's parents)
I don't have any of the dates, so I am guessing. Here is their wedding picture, around 1948.
This could be in the 1970's.
At our wedding, in June 1980.
At home in Gig Harbor, Washington, around 1993.

Snowy walk
It snowed here on Tuesday, and Wayne has been working from home ever since. On Wednesday at 1:00 in the afternoon he took a break from his computer and asked if I wanted to go on a walk. I said sure! So we each put on our big heavy snow boots and went out walking for an hour and a half. Then we realized that it has been almost exactly 34 years since that first time we went out in the snow in 1980. It was really fun to tromp around in our woods and explore some of our neighbors' land. That is our house behind us.

Debi and me in 1963 and 2009
My mother's dad died of cancer in February 1963, and she took me from Oklahoma to Arizona to go to the funeral.
Her sister, Alice, was in town as well, so they took their two daughters to get our portraits taken.
My cousin, Debi, has been my best cousin over the years, and she visited me in 2009.

My Dad
My dad is around 3 years old, in 1932.
This might be his first grade picture. The teacher has her hand on his shoulder.
Here is a story from his grade school years. The girl in front of him had two long braids, which she kept flipping over her shoulders onto his desk. He took out his pocket knife and cut them both off. When the girl started screaming that he had cut off her hair, the school teacher marched him out of the classroom, and he remembers her saying, "I'm going to throw you down those stairs!".

Amy and Wayne 1980
Wayne and I went to the Preference Dance at BYU, and got engaged that night.
I went through the temple at Provo two days before our wedding. Wayne always tells me that he loves it when I wear yellow, it reminds him of this dress.
Wayne owned this 1965 Mustang, and I didn't have a car, so this was our only transportation. This was the house in Provo where he rented a room, and I lived in a bigger house just down the block.

Snow Diving 1980
On our snowshoeing trip with our BYU Family Home Evening group, we came upon this snowbank. The guys got the bright idea of impressing the girls by diving headfirst into it. We got the cameras ready and they dived.
L to R: Wayne, Greg Poulsen, Dave Jensen, Andrew____, Jim Wassmer.
Notice how high Wayne goes (he is on the left), and then how much deeper he goes into the snow than some of the others.
On those old cameras, we had to advance the film before we could take the next picture, so we were yelling at the boys not to move until we could get this photo taken. They hated that.
Wayne says this is one of the dumbest things he ever did, there could have been a big rock or any number of dangerous things below that snow.

New photos galore.
I hired a high school girl to scan all my photos. She keeps getting them done one little batch at a time. So I better start posting them so my loved ones can get an idea of the back story of my life.
Here I am in 1978 just before I left for BYU-Study Abroad, London for 6 months. This is my mother and my grandmother, in Mesa, Arizona.
Here is Wayne, water skiing about a year before I met him. I LOVE THIS PICTURE! Now you know why I fell for him.
In 1980, we were in the same family home evening group at BYU, and our group went to a cabin for a snow shoeing trip. (That is one of my roommates int the front.) I hate the outdoors, but since everything was covered with snow I was not scared of snakes and bugs, so Wayne was convinced that I was an outdoorswoman. (Little did he know how wrong he was.)

Photos from Zac
It was great skyping with Zac on Christmas Eve. We really enjoyed visiting with his companion, too, who is from Argentina. Wayne and the companion had a fun time speaking Spanish to each other while Zac tried to understand what they were saying.

Our family Christmas #4- In Pittsburgh
We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with Bryce's family. We went to downtown Pittsburgh to a big Christmas display and a great toy store. Unfortunately I hardly took any photos! |
Our family Christmas #3- in Virginia
Our family Christmas #2
I like to buy gingerbread kits after Christmas and save them for the next year, my favorite part is helping the little kids decorate them.
Our family Christmas #1
About the same time as Hailey ripped off her wise man crown, Hannah turned into the "fallen angel". (We also loved the tattooed Mary.) |
Elizabeth "Mary" wanted to take this very reverent picture, and she looked lovely with her baby sister. |

New granddaughter Caroline
Here is Isaac and Rachel's fourth child.
She has the funniest cowlick in front. It is a complete circle. She is going to hate that when she gets old enough to want to fix her hair.
